Story:
In their early years, Howler and Wolf grew having problems in their home. Being in bad terms with their father, they ran away from home and became gang members, and gained certain reputation for it. But eventually, they were caught, and were sent to military academies for discipline. However, eventually Wolf defected and joined forces with Andross, forming the Star Wolf squadron under his command. As Wolf and his team gained power and reputation as the most feared criminals in Lylat, many started to view Howler as a potential treat, and begun to despise (even to loath) him. Because of this, Howler was left alone, having no friends or anybody who cared about him at all. Even though he was a skilled pilot, and showed exceptional prowess, no squadrons allowed him in because of his connection to Wolf.
Upon Androsss defeat, the Star Wolf team started working on its own. Howler received a call from his brother, whom he had not seen for years, asking him to join his team. He was reluctant at first, but then again, it wasnt like he had something better to do, so he accepted the offer. However, things were not as he had expected. His other wingmates, Leon and Pigma, despised him due to, as they called it, his
Three years after joining Star Wolf, Howler went off on his own in order to get some cash for repairs. Having stopped at planet Fichina, Howler ran into a band of space pirates who were seemingly storing their loot and a hunch told him there just might be something worth to steal inside. He found a case full of Solarian Diamonds, about 50 millions of Space Dollars in them. But before he could leave, a female wolf named Cerina, who had been kidnapped by the space pirates, asked him to help her escape. Reluctantly, he decided to help her and took her to her home in planet Solaria. At this point, for the first time somebody showed Howler genuine gratitude. Cerina even offered to talk to her father, the General of the Solarian Military Forces, into give him a post as a pilot. He told her it was no use, he was a criminal everybody hated and it wouldnt work, so he was going back to Star Wolf, as he had no other place to go. Not wanting to give in, Cerina insisted that if he truly wanted, it was never too late to change his ways, and do the right thing. Afterwards, she ran off, dropping a small silver wolf-shaped locket. Howler tried to give it back to her, but she was too far by now. When he was going back to the hideout, he thought about what Cerina told him, and wondered if he could truly change his way. After a very long and hard internal struggle, he finally made a decision.
A few months later, Howler became a mercenary pilot under the command of General Zinger, Cerinas father, who helped him as thanks for saving his daughter. He also began a relationship with her. There were some minor troubles, but he finally managed to stabilize his life. Despite General Zinger being his main source of missions, he usually took on other jobs, and, about 5 years later, due to one of these, he visited his old homeworld, Corneria. One event led to another, and he eventually met Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team, which he joined shortly after.
Approximately 2 and a half years passed, and the Star Fox members took separate paths. Howler returned to Solaria, and General Zinger appointed him as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Solarian Air-Space forces. A couple of months later, he and Cerina got married, and one year later their first child, Wolfang, was born.
Two years more passed, and Howler received word that his former teammates were facing a new enemy, so Howler temporarily left his post as Commander and went back to Lylat in order to join Fox and the others one last time.
(More details on the pics below)
Personality
Howler has a strong sense of responsibility and loyalty. Even when he was in Star Wolf, he always fought with honor and showing respect to both allies and enemies. He tries not to go far beyond what he has to do, as he opposes to unnecessary violence. Therefore, he's unable to bring himself to harm or kill anyone unnecessarily. He's not above holding grudges, however, and he'll willingly punish with his own hands anybody whom he feels deserve it, even though more-often-than-not he doesn't go as far as killing them.
Having met Cerina made him learn that never is too late to change, and he takes that lesson very seriously. His past still continues to haunt him sometimes, and that's why he always puts all his efforts to do the right thing. Nevertheless, he tries not to go beyond what he can do, and will not hesitate on asking assistance whenever he needs it.
Combat:
Melee moves: He shares most of his moves with Fox and Falco. Howlers attacks deal average damage, hes pretty much very well-rounded about speed and power. Hes a low-weight character, therefore he cannot take too much damage before being knocked away.
Special moves:
B Machine Guns Howler pulls out a couple of machine guns to attack the enemies. He keeps firing as long as you hold the B-Button. He can change the shot angle to fire diagonally, but not vertically, and is unable to move or defend himself while firing. The shots dont deal too much damage, but they keep the enemy at bay.
<-B-> - Howler Flash Howler jumps upward at an angle in the blink of an eye. It has shorter reach than Wolfs Wolf Flash, but its faster to execute.
/\ B - Fire Wolf Similar to Foxs Fire Fox and Falcos Fire Bird, Howler becomes engulfed by flames and propels himself in the direction holding the control.
\/B Electro Gauntlets Howler starts charging up electricity and upon releasing, he delivers a powerful electric-charged punch. The longer he charges, the stronger the attack is. If enemies touch him while charging, theyll get zapped.
Final Smash - Ray Wolf Assault Howler takes a small control device and says Its all over for you, pal! After that, his Ray Wolf flies in and Howler jumps into the cockpit. The Ray Wolf flies off the stage, and then dives at full speed while firing laser shots to the enemies, and finishing with a Nova Bomb.
Taunts
1- Howler takes out one of his machine guns, throws it upward while saying Leave it to me! then catches it as it falls behind him and puts it back on the holster.
2- Howler looks above his shoulder while lifting his visor, then focuses back on the battle at hand.
Victory Poses:
1- Howler spins around his two machine guns, and then places them on their holsters while saying Sorry about that, pal.
2- Howler stands with his arms crossed, then looks at the screen and gives a thumbs-up while saying Mission Accomplished!
3- Howler hits his left palm with his right fist, and then raises his fist in victory while saying Never mess with Howler ODonnell!
4- (Only when fighting Wolf) Same as the second, but Howler says instead Hah! Is that all youve got, big brother?
Courses:
1- Satellite Cannon:
The Great Fox acts as the main platform here, flying around the Satellite Cannon, in Sector Y. Arwings, Cornerian Fighters and Phantom Fighters dogfight in the background. Occasionally, when flying on certain areas, the defense systems of the satellite cannon will engage and attack the players. Sometimes, Phantom fighters and Phantom interceptors will try to crash against the Great Fox. Fox, Falco and Howler can trigger special conversations in this stage with the taunts.
2- Solaria Space Station:
As the name implies, the players battle over the space station orbiting planet Solaria. There are many pieces of space scrap flying around, so the players must be careful on not being hit by them, as well as the ships which fly around to enter the station, or go out of it. Occasionally, a cargo ship appears, and drops boxes on the station for the players to pick up.
